Advanced Revelation has come of age, at least in most parts of the world.

Today marks 18 years since Revelation Technologies (as it was then known) shipped the final DOS release of ARev.

For those still using the software, perhaps you should should spend a few moments today thinking back on all that's happened in the last 18 years, both in the computer industry and in your own life. Additionally, you can join me in a drink (either in real life at 12 Steps Down at 9th & Catherine in Philadelphia sometime after 4pm) or virtually, as we toast the remarkable ongoing life of ARev 3.12.

Luckily, the future is bright for those wedded to the ARev experience. With AREV/32 you have a continuing future with the product you've come to love (or at least respect) over the years. I can't say enough about AREV/32. I maintain it's the most technologically brilliant piece of software Rev has released since Mike took over. Sure, the new BRW and O4W are slick and useful and great to have, but basically taking an old DOS app and having it run in what's essentially a VT100 terminal with almost no coding changes is just genius.

Happy birthday, ARev. Who'd have thunk you'd still be relevant today?

Spoke to someone last week (Business Analyst) and informed them I used a product called Open Insight. Never heard of it was the reply. Later on it transpired they had used a product called PS2000. They really liked it as it was so easy to add columns and amend fields and screens. It was a Windows product written in something called Revelation they said!

No comment necessary is there.

Hear! Hear!

I remember visiting Revelation with my then business partner, Ira Krakow, when they were headquartered in Washington State. We had just released a newsletter written on 5.25" disks about Revelation, coined the NewsDisk. Imagine, you could be reading our prose, then place your cursor on a line and press a key to run an example program!

We were shown the alpha of Advanced Revelation, basically the "Hello World" of it, and were impressed.

As we were flying home, we decided to can the disk newsletter about Revelation and wholeheartedly

support Advanced Revelation. We never regretted that decision.

I still support two clients using ArevDOS. One recently asked me to re-write the remaining section in use to operate on Windows 7 desktops since the owning entity no longer supports the XP OS. The secretary reminded me that they have known me for 27 years since I first met her after her son was born and she returned to work!

Ira and Dave's demo disk bailed me out of a few problems as I recall.

We still have DOS clients as well.

And try telling that to kids today and they won't believe you.

The "Demo Disk" was what we published with Arev tips.

There were only a few customers of the NewsDisk so we returned their money

and went on into the Arev world.

In Andrew's case? When the bottle tips over at the end of the night.
