Kevin we have communicated serveral times about my upgrading to a new server while keeping the same arev uers count and at least 10 users for OI 7.0. I do not want to have to purchase another universal driver nor use the old server once the conversion is done. I have 27 purchased licenses for 22 reg service packs and 5 Development ready user packs which need to be used in the new sever running both arev 3.12 (9 users) and at least 9 users for the 32 bit 7.0 OI. I wish to let the user use both arev and OI 7.0 as I develop the screens for OI. Additional I have one workstation that lets me log on and start to use the application for about 3 to 5 minutes and then dumps me out back to windows 2000. For the new server should I stay with NT 4.0 or can I use windows 2000 or windows 2003 server software and still use Arev 3.12. Now the server is NT 4.0 servive pack 6 but the new server came without any server software so I need to know which software to purchase NT 4.0 or winsdows 2000 0r 2003. Please let me know because my Dell 4400 servers C drive is getting very old.
Thank you Ray Nootens.

Ray,
Not withstanding what Kevin might say, I cant imagine why you would be findinding it hard to decide on the Server O/S to select for the new server. Simply put, Windows Server 2003 is light years ahead of its predecessors. It is much faster, its security is not like a leaking sieve, it has cool features that WORK like remote desktop (TS) and shadowcopy; IIS is 50% faster etc, Active Directory actually is almost an adequate substitue for the Novell stuff.
At the file server level it should be fine. I cant recall the Universal Driver specs for Arev, but would be the choice for OIv 7x.
I think there is some issues of inter-operability of LH files between the LH Service and those protected by Universal Driver - but could be wrong. Again check documentation.
I have a client with AREV and OIv3x, OIv4x, OIv7x (not sharing files) running on a Win2003 Server with Win2000 LH Service - never a problem - bullet proof (well not the O/S - it is microsoft after all). As soon as Arev drops out, and they have the money, they will be upgrading the driver to Universal.

Doc,
Arev should work fine no matter what your new server will be (NT, 2000, 2003). You might be better off choosing a more recent version of Windows than NT, but that's up to you to decide.
All your Arev user counts will carry over to the new server, as well as the OI users that you an I are working on, so that should not be an issue either.
Regarding the one workstation that kicks you out after 3-5 minutes - if you give me more details I'll see if I can think of a reason why. The fact that it is only one workstation and not more makes it a curious case.
Hope it helps,
Kevin

Thanks to both of you you (Kevin and Richard) Since I have windows 2003 server I'll go that route. I presume Kevin is sending the service packs for OI. Ray Nootens
