I'm working with an AREV 3.12 applicaton. I'm trying to create a table so it's in the GLOBAL location in REVBOOT. I'm trying to duplicate a table that I have in another one of our applications in another application so I can use it as a develop area. I create the table and then try to rename it with the GLOBAL location. Normally what happens is the Linear Hash is turned off on the server and thus my session disappears. I then have to restart the Linear Hash on the server. Or occasionally I' break to what looks like the debugger screen where I get a message saying max variable size and references RTP57 (Linear Hash BFS). From there I just have to "End Task" the session.

I've been using the User's Guide manual, pages 392 - 393 as my guide. This tells me how to make a table then rename the table to the Global location. So far I haven't found anything of real use on this subject in the On-Line Discussion area.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to create a table and get it into the Global location?

Thank you for your time.

Hmmm… this probably is the "wrong" way, but it works for me!

SETFILE path SYSPROG,password REVMEDIA RX

(use the path to the revmedia table where the table is stored)

COPY RX table*account TO:table*GLOBAL (D

(use your table and account name)

If you have a dictionary, also do

COPY RX DICT.table*account TO:DICT.table*GLOBAL (D

This copies the account level entries in the Revmedia table (which we setfiled to the temporary name RX) into global level entries, and the (D option deletes the original.

Then you have re-attach this volume or logoff and log back onto Arev.

Michael,

Are you using one of Revelation's networking products? By this, I mean are you using the NT Service or the Universal Driver?

Is there any way that I can tell if we are using a network product or not? Or is there any way that I can tell the network folks how to determine what we are using?

I get the strong impression that our network folks know very little about AREV and don't care to know much and prefer to deal with it as little as possible. I think the only time they have to actually deal with it is when they have to start the Linear Hash.

If they have to start a Linear Hash service then you are using a network product. The query comes - what version?

Can you get to the c:\revsoft\ntservice subdir on the server and type lhsrvc /status

This will get the version…
