I am unable to build a btree index because AREV crashes to the debugger as the build is entering the final stages.

Configuration:

AREV 2.12 on Netware 5 using LH NLM 5.0

I have tried building on both an XP workstation and via Citrix Metaframe XP session both with exactly the same results.

Expanded memory is always active at 4194MB with CONFIG.NT files=200

*

The btree is on a very simple symbolic that extracts the last value in a multi value date field LAST_MOD_DATE as follows:

MOD_DATE: multivalued FMC 87

LAST_MOD_DATE: @ANS=@RECORD-1,\42FD\

The file has about 450,000 records taking up 550MB

*

I can list the entire file and symbolic without problems

I have tested for non-numeric with no hits ie LAST_MOD_DATE NOT MATCHES "0N"

*

The error presents as follows-

-From the indexing menu, define the btree and rebuild

-Rebuild has been under way for 2 hours; approximately 15 minutes after the task bar message 'Finalizing sort' has cleared, it breaks to the debugger listing only the following:

RTP50 L1 ERRMSG B114

There is no debugger prompt/response and the only option is to kill the session

I have tried building this about a dozen times, and tried various tweaks to the CONFIG.NT, AUTOEXEC.NT and shortcut with no luck. It breaks at the same place each time.

Any help very greatly appreciated!!

Maximum number of variables exceeded in the memory resident filing system? Are you RESTRICTING the EMS to a max of 4096? Any more can cause flaky memory errors.

Do you have enough disk space for the sort?

Many thanks for the quick reponse!

-I have 3 gig of disk space available

-I am loading …/x /m4096

WHO yields:

Expanded Memory Statistics

EM Used = 339,968
EM Allocated = 4,194,304

Memory Region Segment Address

16K EM Window = DD00 (884K)
64K Overflow Buffer 1 = CD00 (820K)
64K Overflow Buffer 2 = 2B67 (174K)

Your suggestion about disk space got me thinking aobut the sort file location which had been left blank in the environment. I changed it to the local drive and the index build completed without errors and in 1/2 the time, taking only 1 hour!!

Assuming there is no file size limit on the LAN, any idea why having the sorting on a network drive would cause RTP50 to fail on a large sort?

Many thanks again!

Chris

Hi Steve

This is a Netware server and the sysadmin swears there is no quota imposed on the users. I would think that if this were the case we would be choking on the large Arev file sizes with some running at .5 gig?

On the clients there were no virtual memory errors either interactively or in the event logs.

Unless you've deleted your REVERROR.000 file, the message indicates a dropped connection to the server.

Don't know why that would happen, but it seems to be the case.
