Below is a listing of my prior posting. I would be interested to see if REVSOFT especially, or anyone has some real answers to this problem. After reviewing prior posting it is very easy to see that this is a real big problem to many other users.

WHAT DOES REVSOFT SUGGEST ????????????

I am running the following configuration:

Window NT 4.0 Server Pentium 166 (128 meg RAM) - using NT Service (version 1.5)

Window 95 workstations (25) using NPP

TCP/IP protocol only

Currently, like many other NT users we have experienced intermittant slowness. This usually occurs when report process has been started and the initial index select process is completed and the reduce process has begun, however there are times when only one user is on the system and still experiences the same problem.

I have reviewed several of the responses to this topic but still have not really seen an answer. According to Revelation what is the proper or suggested configuration to resolve this issue or can this issue be resolved? I realize that Novell is one answer, but that is not an option for me at this point.

1) What type of partition should Arev be running on NTFS or FAT?

2) How much memory is suggested for the server? workstations?

3) What protocol is suggested or required (TCP/IP, IPX, Netbeui)?

4) Does Revsoft have a complete configuration listing for many of the most pertinant settings?

When running under a network, I always (if they have a local hard drvie) make a directory on the local drive and put the LISTS file on it. I also make sure that the sort path points to the local drive. Additionally, if you're not using AREV 3.12, make sure that the network buffers in REVBOOT is (are?) set to 0. At TCL, do:

EDIT DOS REVBOOT

now CTRL-F for 20, and replace it with 00 (make SURE you do not add or delete even one byte from REVBOOT, but do a straight replace of the 2 with a 0. This bug in pre-3.12 could be causing your problems.

Hope this helps.

(BTW, everyone, please change your e-mail and homepage links for me.

I am moving to a new server and don't know where yet, but this Bigfoot virtual link will always point to the correct page and I'll always get the e-mail. Thanks.)

I replied to a problem wihich shared some features with yours. If your server seems unresponsive at the same time you might like to try it. I didnt hear whether the other people did as someone else suggested it was a raid problem. Please let me know if you do. my email address is in1025@wlv.ac.uk. If you go into control panel - net work - services - server-properties and set the option to balance (if you have it set to maximise throughput for file sharing) and reboot you might find it better. Please do let me know via mail whether this helps or not.

I am extremely interested in your questions and have been watching for a response as well. My company is running exactly the same setup as yours with the exception of the fact that we have set our server to maximize throughput for file sharing, as one of the responses to your posting suggested. This had made no noticeable difference in performance. Server speed has become an increasingly acute issue at this point and unfortunately, I find the lack of response from Revsoft to be a prime example of the kind of service and support I have come to expect from them over the last few months.
