1. Edit Revmedia

We have data split into several sub-directories.

We wish to edit the revmedia of a specific sub-directories to remove some rubbish. How can it be done?

Under ARev1 it could be done with:

  F5
  listmedia \x\y
  F5
  edit revmedia

2. %RECORDS%

We have a file called %RECORDS% appearing in several data

sub-directories when listmedia is run.

Several files have a record call %RECORDS%.

I am fairly sure they are coming from adding/deleting Quick/Rightdex in ARev3 and/or OI.

Is there any simple (sure) way of removing them and what causes them?

Jonathan,

1. Normally if the tables you want removed are able to be attached then just type DELETETABLE TableName. If that doesn't work, then you need to go into SYSPROG, type ATTACHTABLE VolumeName REVMEDIA, then type EDIT REVMEDIA, and then follow the dialogs from there and Alt-D whatever records you want removed. Then just manually delete the REVxxxxx.* files afterwards.

2. %RECORDS% record are created from QuickDex or RightDex's on either your data or dictionary files. The easiest way to remove them from F5 (TCL) would be to type DICT TableName, then press Shift-F3 and answer the questions.

The real problem is that you sometimes get a Quickdex set on REVMEDIA which is really hard to get off. There are utilities that will let you deal with REVMEDIA itself. One of them is REVMEDIA_DOCTOR which used to be on the CompuServe Forum. In a pinch, I might be able to locate it and E-Mail you a copy.

Just edit the DICT.REVMEDIA and/or REVMEDIA entry in the REVMEDIA file and remove the reference to QUICK/RIGHTDEX.MFS and reattach.

Don't forget to delete the %RECORDS% record if you're not going to put the MFS back on.

To edit the revmedia file, you must be logged in as SYSPROG. Then at TCL do:

ATTACH WHATEVERTHEVOLUMEIS REVMEDIA

EDIT REVMEDIA

The %RECORDS% file is certinly to do with quickdex. If it is occuring as a DOS file in the directory, my guess is that you have managed to put quickdex.mfs on the VOLUME.
