How do you delete or remove a password in Arev 2.12?

Last week I tried this (see below) and it didn't work!?!

]

After I cleared line the system still wanted me to enter a password. The password isn't the old password and I have no idea what the new password might be. I tried hitting enter & also various lengths of spaces. HELP!

I think I gave you a bumb steer before. Using the editor won't do it.

However, I think this will work:

Log into sysprog

Menu Tree - Management, User, Secure User

Keyin the userid that you need to fix. Print Screen the window because you'll have to redo it later.

Press . Select Delete User. Keyin the userid. You should be able to delete it unconditionally without asking for a password.

Next, Go to the Make User form and re-create the user including all the correct parms.

I quickly tested this in AREV 2.12 and it worked.

Sorry for the trouble before

Okay!

I didn't think you would have to goto SYSPROG to remove the password, since I didn't need to be there to create the password.

In PICK, if you hit enter for the new password, it asked if you wanted to delete the password. I just thought it would be the same.

Anyway, all done.

BTW, The problem caused by the password was that I could QFILE to the passworded account. Do you know if there is a way to QFILE to a passworded account?

Thanks again for your help!

If the ACCOUNT is passworded, then setting a QFILE pointer requires a password as well - well just about. There are ways to get to SYSPROG which is passworded .. but that's another story. Outside of the SYSPROG account, a user may change its password to another password but may NOT remove it (since it was initially required when the user was setup by SYSPROG). Note that you can't get to Secure User or Create User from any account other than SYSPROG. Pick was a little looser.

Yeah, Pick was a whole lot looser. You could actually get to other user workspaces and fiddle with their return stacks, symbol tables or keyboard input buffers through the system debugger. Loads of fun.
