Running Arev 2.03 with Windows NT (AREV Specific)

What sort of problems am I likely to encounter if my Client decides to introduce Windows NT in place of Novell 4.0 and run an Arev 2.03 application on same?? Will I need NPP or NT Service, if so which one?? Are there any problems with printers as the application simply writes to LPT1 at present??
We are currently running Windows NT (in a branch office environment) and I have Arev 2.03 running with the driver set to DOS 3.1+ Network Drv. 2.0 and with more than 1 person using the system it appears to work O.K. without the NPP or NT Service. Is this correct or are we just lucky that we have not encountered any problems??

Bill,
Off the top of my head I don't recall what version Revelation won't consider supportable on an NT network, but I believe 2.03 is okay. However, the NT Service and the NPP would be required. The NT Service is installed on the server as a task service while the NPP is installed against AREV as a client driver. If you purchase the NT Service you will also get the NPP driver as a part of the package. The NT Service will not work without the NPP driver also installed.
Printing tends to get spooled more often in an NT network, so you might want to add statements to your code that will close the print job. In Novell one would end capture to close the print job. With NT you can just do a PDISK PRN to accomplish the same thing.
In your personal situation I would say you've been "lucky" (or blessed would be my preferred term.) In principle, even if you only have a 2 user system, you should be running the NPP driver to prevent GFE's. If all you are using is a peer-to-peer network then the NPP is all you can use since the NT service is specifically for NT servers.

I would see whether they can configure your NT server to have a gateway (using NWLINK) to the Novell box, then log into both servers concurrently and enjoy the best of NT and Novell.
Otherwise, fork out the few dollars to upgrade to AREV 3.12, and use the NT service or the NPP.
