I need to change the width of the key field. When I attempt to change it in the dictionary editor or in MAKETABLE I get a message that the field cannot be changed.

Is there a way to change the key field width short of creating a mirror application and exporting the data into it?

You should be able to DICT FILE KEY from TCL and change the display length.

Is there another width you could be talking about?

Aaron,

Thanks for our reply.

The collumn that I am trying to change is the key field. When I try to change either the validation patern from 4N to 5N or change the display length form 4 to 5 I get the following error message: The "PROJECT_NUMBER" column may not be modified.

The only things I can think to do is to either EDIT DICT KEY and change the validation patern and the display length in the dict file directly, then rebuild all my indexes or to copy the table structure to a new table with out the data, change the key field characteristics, then write an RBasic routine to move the data over.

Is either approach feasible? What are the conserns for each? Is there a better way.
