Hopefully not a stupid question regarding Arev 3.12 on MetaFrame with Netware 3.12 on back-end. We have our users connecting to Arev through WTS and MetaFrame 1.8 with the database on Netware 3.12. This is the only function our WTS performs. Citrix states that "MetaFrame scales linearly as processors are added, subject to performance constraints from other system resources such as memory". Will a second processor on our Compaq Proliant 1600R (PII 400/576M RAM)provide such an increase with users only running Arev, or is it only applicable for multi-processor "aware" (ie win 32-bit) software applications??? Our system has plenty of memory, but is starting to push up CPU utilisation (mean 55% / 8 users). I have implemented the AREVFIX and attempted to optimise via other options such as TAME, "Yield time to windows" option in AREV and also DOSKBD. CPU utilisation of NTVDM for each user is between 2 - 25% (mean 10). Any answers will be appreciated.

I do not know the answer to you question regarding the second processor.

We are looking at using Metaframe with AREV 2.12 on a Novell 3.12 server. What is you experience with Metaframe and AREV.

Who supplies the AREVFIX.COM patch.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ken,

this is from an earlier thread on the Citrix patch, posted by Aaton Lewter:

"For everyone in the same situation, AREVFIX.CO_ which extracts to AREVFIX.COM comes with Winrefame and Metaframe from Citrix, it is in the i386 directory, and when extracted it is found in \\%systemroot%\system32\"

Thanks for the information.

I am sure Ken appreciates your help Wilhelm. Any ideas about the answer to the real question of a second processor????? Citrix seems to think it will help. Anyone else with an answer???

We had a similar situation with one of our clients, however the hardware / software configuration was slightly different. They are running ARev 3.12, Novell 4.10 and mostly Win95 workstations. They had a Compaq Prolient server with duel Pentium Pro processors, yet the system would halt and freeze every time utilization would reach 100%. After some research on past post on this message board, I found that the Novell / ARev combination just does not run well on dual processor systems. If it was a NT / Arev combo, then it seems to work fine. Mind you, this was working with Novell 4.0.

Once we removed the second processor, the system has yet to freeze up at max utilization. It hits 100% and about 90 users on a daily basis and it still has great response time. And it is only a Pentium Pro 200…

Hope this helps,

Thankyou Frank for your help. We currently use Netware 4.11 for all of our other services (file & print) except AREV which is on a 3.12 Cubix server. We used to use Cubix nodes with Reachout for remote users which we have almost phased out (a good solution for its time). Terminal server on the Compaq connects users to this dedicated server. This is only an interim step and we plan to move AREV to the Terminal Server with the AREV NT Service Pack and do away with the Netware box. By your comments, the second processor seems feasible after the migration is complete. Thanks for your input. Your time is appreciated.

Thanks
