Rev G2B (AREV Specific)

I have a runtime G2B of Revelations and I wish to export the data to a delimeted DOS text file. I was told by the provider of the runtime that the Porter Utilities diskette would probably corrupt the database. I think the company might be trying to back me into a corner in order for me to purchase more services from them, but I'm not sure.
Additionally, Since I am new to the Revelations database, I'm not even sure if there is a TCL for the runtime version or what other methods are available to get an interactive session to the database to find out the table(s) and table layouts.
Thank you in advance,
Tobin

Tobin,
I'm a little rusty on G2, but I think you can get inside the application from a runtime. It helps if you know the account name (it's the parameter following 'REV' or 'REV.EXE' used in the command line from DOS or Windows, like 'REV ACCOUNTS'). If you can't find it, use 'SYSPROG'.
From DOS:
* Start in the REV.EXE subdirectory
* Logon as SYSPROG (type 'REV SYSPROG')
* At the command (colon) prompt, type: LISTMEDIA volumename
(volumename is the subdirectory pathname which contains the data,
like 'C:\REV\ACCTS').
* You'll get a list of filenames and their DOS equivalent.
If you know the account name, login as REV Acctname, then type
ATTACH volumename (ATTACH C:\REV\ACCTS). You can view the filenames
by typing 'LISTFILES'.
To view a file dictionary's filenames, type 'LIST DICT filename'
To view the field's properties:
* Type 'BUD filename'
* Type the fieldname at the prompt
To use $PORTER, you type 'RUN DOS PORTER parameter' at the colon prompt, where parameter is:
RV=DOS file to Revelation
DOS=Revelation file to DOS
DOS,123=Revelation file to Lotus 123 format
I hope this helps,
Irv

Hey Tobin,
You have a bit of a dilemma. RevG runtimes don't have some really important things that would make your life simpler. It has NO compiler and none of the R/Design routines - the application maker. I don't think PORTER exists either. All R/List stuff, the TCL report language, does function, though.
To look at the DICTionary you can use either:
LOOKDICT filename
orLIST DICT filename
Both yield different views of the dictionary definitions of the fields (aka columns) of the file (aka table).
You could PDISK to a DOS file, if PDISK is installed, and rip it apart that way outside of Rev. Or get your hands on PORTER. I wasn't happy with it a long time ago so I don't use it. Don't even know where mine is.
I do only RevG. If I can be of help, contact me directly.
