Running AREV 3.111 on Novell 3.12 DOS workstations running IPXODI & VLMs Madge Token Ring Cards

Got the error message

The index row "CASE_SEQUENCE_NUMBER**9353" is missing

The Index Column "CASE_SEQUENCE_NUMBER" in TABLE

REGISTERS should be rebuilt.

We decided to rebuild all the indexes in REGISTERS and the process locked up and we lost records in the data file.

We made a copy just prior to the rebuild and restored it, and rebuilt just the one.

What causes the INDEX ROW MISSING Message to occur?

Why do our index rebuilds lock up sometimes resulting in 0 rows in the table?

There are a number of possible reasons :

- instable hardware or electricity

- too old drivers. They should be at least :

  1. LSL.COM 2.05+
  1. IPXODI.COM 2.12+
  1. NETX .EXE 3.32
  1. VLM.EXE 1.20+

If your number of stations is more than about 5 you can get more stability by :

- adding a dedicated index server

- using the NLM

I don't know if you do but just in case.

Please feel free to contact me if needed any further information

I just had a similar problem today. Our HUGE check history table was being updated. Our import process flushes indexes after each 10 additions so users can continue to view information without waiting for 3,000 additions.

I usually detach that file from our dedictated indexer but forgot this time. The two PCs tried to update indexes at the same time and corruption in the !file resulted. Fortunately for me I could just restore the index file (!filename) and rerun the process.

Your problem sounds like either bad ids in the table or the need for a dedicated indexer.

By the way, did you find a consultant for your data conversion job??
