We have an installation of ARev 3.12 (I think) with the Revelation NLM. We previously had a server crash earlier today, and now when we restarted the server it turns out we can't access Arev.

It won't display any dots while starting up - it immediately returns some error message saying something like "Linear Hash error FS472 Can't open bootmedia map" and then exits.

We restored REVBOOT and REVMEDIA.* from backup, but it still won't work. Can there be an error with an NLM, or is it a REVMEDIA.* file in another directory? I restored the one that were in the same directory as AREV.EXE

We're kinda desperate. Need to get this baby on-line by tomorrow morning.

Sincerely, Mats Gefvert

Check the frame types that are bound to the card in the autoexec.ncf on the server, and make sure that the clients are bound to the same one.

Our Win95 clients are using all frame types detected. We can contact the Netware 4.1 server without problems, the whole network runs smoothly, it's just that since two hours we can't go into Arev.

What does error message FS472 say? I tried looking it up in REVERROR.000 but could find it.

Perhaps the TSR is not communicating to the server? We had a similar problem caused by SAP filtering. Check the FAQ for the NLM for details on what to check for.

Using auto frame type detection can cause problems connecting to the NLM as documented here.

There are other possible causes of this, such as SAP filtering, but the frame type is the most likely cause.

I'm unsure of what is going on here, but we just checked in accordance with the FAQ to try different kind of network wiring. We have three network cards in our server, and we switched my computer from server network card #2 to card #1 using another hub. And suddenly - it works.

God knows why it works - but thanks for the hints, and I'll check up the additional documents about SAP filtering and Frame Types you've been mentioning. I owe you one :-)
