Heya,

Have recently had to install two new machines which are running Windows XP. Since doing this large selects are taking 25-50% longer to run under XP than they did under Win 98.

Is there any command/hacks/settings that I can change to speed these processes up.

Thanks

Peter

By any chance are you running a Novell network? If so try using the Novell Client32 v2.83sp2

Yes we are using that Novell client.

Are there any tweaks in that client, that I need to make (besides turning off file caching).

Do a search on xp or novell or config.nt on this board. There maybe some left over stuff from the Microsoft Novell client that slows ARev down. Are you using the NLM?

Are the selects seleting btree indexed fields?

If so did you try repeating the select (after clearselect) … does it improve performance? If so … there probably were pending transactions and there is something wired with dedicated indexor.

In CONFIG.NT you willprobably have something like

dos=high, umb

device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys

files=220

Also, as suggested, need to look up the issue in this forum. Correctly set up you can expect reasonable performance.

I believe you should be looking in the auotexec.nt for Microsoft ipx/spx statements and rem them some newer version of the client32 will remove the statement.
