RTPXX Maximum number of variables exceeded (AREV Specific)

About 4 weeks ago we started getting AREV error "RTPxx Maximum number of variables exceeded. Sometimes it is RTP50/57/9/27) We are using AREV 3.12 running on Windows 2003, unlimited number of users with usually around 60 concurrent sessions at any given time. Our symbolic fields have been cleaned so none refers to {}. Most subroutines are expendable. We use flush/garbagecollect where we think is required. AREV freezes for few seconds just before the crash. Some sessions come back up while others crash with "max var" error. Some don't even get the error but simply get kicked out of AREV. There were incidents when all sessions of AREV crashed irrespective of whether they were idle or being used, even those with Background Indexing turned off. Sometimes half of the users are affected and half not. The users affected appeared to be random. Our workstations are all XP with a mixture of mem capacity, ranging from 512 TO 2GB. The ones with 2GB appear to be the least affected group. It could be a coincidence but that's the only pattern that I could establish. I am at a loss as to what's causing this issue. Our AREV application has been stable for the last 13 years and never had any downtime prior to this issue.

Well this sounds like a loss of network connectivity issue. In the first instance check that ALL shortcuts have "Always suspend" unchecked. There is no reason why an AREV installation should be unstable - or to be more accurate there is no undiscoverable unfixable reason why.

Thank you. Re-started the server. AREV hasn't crashed since. It has been over 48 hours.
