At one of my clients I have a custom validation on key field in a window where users can enter the company number or a word in the company title. If a word is entered a popup of companies with that word in the company name will appear.

Now, in any AREV window if you enter an ID and press F9 nothing happens. But with this validation in place users can put in a name, press F9 and the popup will appear. When they pick a company they are returned to a blank screen as is normal after pressing F9.

Is there a way to get around the 'F9 clears the screen' problem, or must I simply train everyone to press Enter instead of F9.

What you need to do is train them that F9 means SAVE. If you want to change the functionality, you can put something in the pre-save process, which gets executed when you press F9.

Alternatively, since you already have a post prompt process, that may be the logical place to put any code. Rather than simply accepting keys as is on faith, you might put some check to see if the record has already been loaded, check what keystroke was used, etc.

Of course! I must have had a mental block of some sort. I guess I was thinking that since no record was active I wouldn't be able to catch it in a pre.save process. Between post.prompt and pre.save I should be able to do something.

Retraining ! :-} I'm still trying to figure out where in the system they've gotten used to using F9 in this manner.

By the way. I visited the job board you mentioned in a recent posting and searched on "AREV". Everything I tried to pull up gave me a 'document not found' or 'URL not found' or some such message. Did I do something wrong?

Thanks for your time.

I recently moved my site to a different host. I have to reprogram my CGI scripts (basically change one or two lines) to point to new perl, CGI-BIN directories, and what not. I guess I did not yet get to the Arev search script. I'll post a followup here when it is done.

CGI program has been updated. Email me at lights@onr.com if there is still a problem.
