Has anyone successfully configured Arev3.2 an XP or W2k workstation on Novell 6.5 to be as fast as a Win98 machine on NW4.11?

Does the Universal Driver remove the previous slow down problems?

Jim,

It's a bit of a lame answer, but I'm sure there are benchmark results on this site somewhere. I know I used them in my previous position…

Unfortunately we also will upgrade to XP soon, so the question … "Should we let at least one machine with W98 for batch processing or not?" … becomes more and more important.

I am not sure the bechmarks of Tim are benchmarks for the best XP configuration.

My experience is that on notebook the XP performance on Nw4.11 is horrible, on the other side the XP desktop performance is comparable to W98 one on not much older machines.

(I didn't test the same desktop with W98, I didn't test several PC's either.)

I have tried several novel clients on the notebook, I've ended with recomended 4.83 SP2, but I didnot mention significant differences.

I expect a lot of yours did the tests … what XP+network configuration do you recomend, what settings are important.

The rem the following 2 lines in the Autoexec.nt and it did the trick.

REM Install network redirector

rem lh %SystemRoot%\system32\nw16

rem lh %SystemRoot%\system32\vwipxspx

………………

this was exactly the difference in autoexec.nt on the notebook and mentioned desktop …

I've created and used autoexec.rev as suggested.

In a prior job we had XP SP1 and Netware 6.0 running Arev very nicely with the NLM v5.

On this job we don't have any XP (yet) and I would have to re-learn what I did. So the short answer to your question seems to be yes (slightly diffent Netware), but I don't remember how details!

Here we use Win2K and Netware 5.5 servers and LH-NLM 1.5 and it has been very nice except for something that has striken us very recently. We are now running Selects up to 10 times slower than last week.

Please post your findings, and IF my dense gray cells remember anything about the configuration with XP/Netware 6.0 I'll post that.
