I have restored a working copy of a Revelation 2.1 system to a standalone PC. When I issue the AREV command a window is displayed on the title screen stating 'Unable to Open VERBS'. I have searched this discussion list for similar postings and found a user receiving an error 'Unable to read VERBS in media map', but that type of error does not appear in a window. Any suggestions on possible causes for this error?

If you've got an install set, try doing a virgin install to a blank subdirectory. You will be able to grab a media map and a good copy of the VERBS file. Then from this copy you can edit your media map:

EDIT DOS REVMEDIA.LK. See if VERBS is in that media map.

The pickle you're in is no fun to fix!!

My thought would be that you have either a networked copy or that the backup did not have the VERBS file in it.

The media map is in the file revmedia.ov and revmedia.lk. that is where the file name VERBS is equated to the dos file name REV20???.ok and the corresponding LK.

When you do the clean install, that will create all the needed files and you can then attach and read the revmedia of the system you are trying to salvage. At that point you can get a listing of the files and there DOS names and verify what has happened.

The other possibility is that some one has ceated a startup option for you system that attaches REV volumes and launches screens or menus which could also be looking for a verbs file that is on a mapped drive.

Depending on how familar you are with Arev, this could be a very deep puddle. You might want to find some experienced Arev people in your area for help.
