I have an application, which depending on the user logging-in, may want to attach to separate data. However, if I have 30 operators, that may be 30 different sub-directories of data. The problem comes when I publish an RDK upgrade which alters / adds dictionary items. If I store the dictionary with the data as normal, I would have to install the upgrade 30 times. Not appealing.

However, if I stored the dictionary in a parent data folder and the data separately in a sub-folder, then I would only have to install the upgrade once.

Has anyone else ever done this? Is it a good idea? What problems could this cause?

TIA

G'day Robert,

Yes, you can store your dictionaries in a separate directory. No real downside to this.

Robert,

I use that technique all the time. It works great for backups and multiple applications.

I subfolder the "data", "dict" and the "index" tables (files). It just sounds like the right thing to do.

I also have "shared" tables (files). One table (file) used in all applications. And then, you have tables (files) that are unique to each application.

Hi Richard

Thanks for your response. Do you use the technique documented by Sprezz using an MFS on the dictionary? In my original thoughts on the subject, I thought I would simply be able to use COPY_TABLE to copy the data portion off to a different folder, delete it from the original location and just do two ATTACH_TABLE's for the two different folders.

Thanks

You guys seem to be giving me more reasons to get over my MFS phobia. See my post to Richard for my attempt to delay the inevitable.
