I am trying to understand how the Advanced Revelations licenses are tracked with the Lanpack installed. Does the application on the server track the number of users running the program?

Can anyone provide an overview of how the licenses are tracked?

What are you trying to achieve? If you can be a little more specific you won't set off licensing alarm bells :-)

You may wish to search the forum using the keyword BUMP as well as LANPACK. I believe the executable is rebuilt – and it's irreversible. Once you've applied the disk, you cannot reuse it, and you cannot undo the process, so you need to be sure you are properly prepared before starting. And take a backup right after bumping, because if you lose your files after bumping and have to do a restore from older files, you will no longer be bumped, and I don't think you can reuse the disk.

As Victor said, the BUMP process in not reversable. The license count is maintained in AREV.EXE. Simultaneous users are tracked against this count within the system itself. That's as far as I go. You can have a shortcut on any number of desktops, but the maximum # of logged in user connections is controlled by the number of valid licenses purchased.

Recently, I began supporting an application that was written in Advanced Revelation. The application was originally installed by distributing arev.exe to the computer, this started about 8 years ago. About 4 years ago, the application was changed and it was served via Citrix using an Arev lanpack. Over the course of 8 years, some workstations have continued to have the Arev installed on the workstation. I want to clean up this mess and have everything served by Citrix, ensuring we have the appropriate licenses. I am not sure how many people are using this direct install arev.exe. I am concerned about sufficient licenses being available when we start moving people off the direct install and onto the Citrix server. This has raised the question about how the licenses are tracked for the application.

CareyLynn,

Inside your AREV application, you can hit F5 and enter the command

WHO

which will display the number of user licences of your system. This licence user limit is incremented by the application of LANPACKs or, as they are also called, BUMPDISKS. Each disk/pack increments the number of users - applied once before it expires.

In principle there should be at least as many user licences as there are people concurrently using your system (the user head count).

Hope this helps,

Steve
