We are running on Novell, AREV 3.12 and Windows 95…we recently changed out two desktops and are now experiencing a locking issue. Both desktop users are locking AREV files and the locks will NOT release until the user logs out of the network and reboots the PC.
All other users PC's are releasing the locks appropriately.
Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.

Check the Netware Client - if it is Microsoft replace it with a Novell supplied client, preferably an Intranetware client. Version 2.2.0.0 is stable.
There are known problems with other Novell client versions, especially the Client 32 in some versions.
Hope this helps,
Steve

Checked the Network and it is Novell Netware. Was wondering if it might have anything to do with the Novell rights assigned to these two users. When they are logged in, I note that they are the "Owner" of the AREV files that they are attached to. Should this cause a problem when all files have RWS flags associated with them?
Again, any help is appreciated!!!
Y'all have a nice day!! :o)

Go to my website at http://www.ozemail.com.au/~stsm and download the real-time lock inspection utility and look at the first line to see the lock and the second line to see the unlock, then step through a test program (which locks and unlocks a record) in the debugger line by line to see what happens. This utility works with the AREV Advanced Netware driver. This at least lets you view the locks passed to the server.
