Network Question (AREV Specific)

I have not installed or been involved in networks for about 2 years. I have a client with two workstations, and was wondering if Lantastic is still a good choice for Arev version 3.03. He doesn't want to purchase a stand alone server if he doesn't have too. What version of Lantastic would be good? Is there any problems installing windows 98 on top of Lantastic? I have done it with Win95 and it works OK.
Have they solved the problem of needing a dedicated server when using
Win98? If so, and you were to use Win98, Do you need an NPP? How would you make drive C: on the server be accessed as network drive F: on the server. (Arev likes to access network drive F: or hogher.
Heeellllppp!
Any suggesstions or info would be greatly appreciated. Thank You,

to map one drive letter to another or a directory to a drive letter is simple.
in your case do this:
- make C shareable
- click on network neightborhood and select your puter.
- select your drive C that you made accessible to the net.
- Right click and select "Map Network Drive"
- Make sure you have the reconnect when rebooting checked.
Voila…

I gave that a shot and came up with:
"The following error occured when trying to connect S: to \\Stevenda\steves c:
The computer name or share name could not be found. Make sure you typed it correctly, and try again."
Any ideas?
If I do get this to work, can I run Arev on Microsoft Networks on a non-dedicated server, 2 station peer to peer network?

Yup … providing:
1. Your copy of AREV is properly bumped
2. You use the NPP driver
3. You disable write-behind caching on both machines
I have had poor luck with Lantastic for Win95/98. The peer-to-peer network with Win95/98 seems to work better. You have to work out the Share issues and drive mappings. It is a good idea to map both computers to the same drive letter. Then..start AREV from a batch file. That way, if the network is not working, it won't start.

We have had a lot of problems with Lantastic & Arev .. corrupted data files etc. and indexing problems. Win 98 peer to peer is a better solution but use NPP with it.
