what I want to do is update an application that I didn't create in order to modify the app for a customer.

my question is: how do I "import" their application into my development system initially to work on it?

since I never developed and exported it originally, it doesn't come up in my list of "deployment definitions"

thanks

Steve,

There are several ways to go about doing this, each one being better or worse depending on the situation. For instance, how big of an application are we talking about? Are there inherited (i.e. SYSPROG based) development components? Do you have access to this customer's OI application and your own OI system simulateously? Your answers will help to provide the best approach to take.

Barring any specifics, however, the most universal approach is to use the APPBACKUP utility which you launch from OpenInsight Executables-]OpenInsight Form Executables-]APPBACKUP. You have the option of "Backup" or "Restore", which should be self explanatory. My only word of caution is to *not* use the Copy Data Tables option. It is easier to just copy those tables in the normal way and attach them yourself.

What is the "normal way"? Maybe I know it, but I don't assume too much at this stage.

Thanks,

Ray

The way I do it is to create/copy the application subdirectory structure as part of the install. For example, our primary app uses a subdirectory structure \OIDATA which contains 3 subdirectories under it. Our InstallMaker setup installs the app (like Install Shield), saves the install path and then launches a 2'nd installation to copy the data files.

Obviously, it can be done manually too.

I meant by using File Explorer to copy the directories. I'm assuming he doesn't already have these files or he doesn't mind replacing the ones he already has.
