After some processes, the Oengine is sittlng there as IDLE, with no requests being received, but the Engine Usage sits there at around 90%.

Any ideas what might cause this?

Surely at Idle, the % should be quite low.

Use the sysinternals process monitor tool to see what the engine is doing. You can download it from here.

Background indexing may trigger engine activity but not display an active routine in the log window. What are the delay before index update settings for your application? Inside the Database Manager screen click "Database → Environment Settings → Indexing/Reports"
