I'm trying to find out if by design you are unable to create a bitmap that has a transparent background and placing it on a form and having the form color show through rather than painting the bitmap to match the form. I know a transparent background can be set for icons and WMFs etc, but can it be done with a bitmap. If so does anyone know of a graphics editor which will do the trick.

Thanks in advance.

Chad,

Bitmaps by their nature don't support a transparant palette the way GIF and ICO files do. BTW, I don't think WMF files do either.

What are you trying to accomplish? Maybe there is a solution that can be suggested.

I use Adobe Photoshop to create GIF files with transparent backgrounds.

But I don't think OI works with transparent palettes. Am I wrong? I created a transparent GIF and OI displayed the original color instead.

To tell the truth, I haven't tried it yet. I guess it depends on the limitations of the IM11GIF.DIL file.
