A rave from the grave… a client is experiencing errors with their SQL Server bond after moving from SPX to Named Pipes. Errors include "DBPROCESS is dead or not enabled." Despite much Googling we're drawing a blank. Does anybody recall this? AREV 2.12 SQL Server 6.5, 2000/XP clients.

off the cuff, have not used Arev Sql bond, so not necessarily good advice:

Can you connect to that sql server without Arev, for example by starting a cmd session then using isql ( might be called osql)?

If not, then run the SQL 6.5 install, choose install only the client, ensure you have the correct libraries installed on the workstation which executes the bond. Your Sqlserver and client should be at latest service pack too. Make sure isql (or osql, i think) will connect and run a query.

If ISQL works, then check for connection strings in the Arev bond, see if there is anything that specifies the library, make sure it it the correct one.

Cheers Bob - the workstations all connect fine - they just time out from time to time. However appreciate the pointers and will definitely take it on board. The irony is we were moving them off Novell (which has had rock solid connectivity) to Windows for ease of maintenance!

Wasn't there a change that was needed in the settings of the NIC. Can not remember exactly, but it had to do with the hardware build of the driver.
