A couple more questions. The first is based on the fact I am simply not a very competent programmer.

I want to create a button in a form that updates or rebuilds one or more indexes belonging to the attached table. I know I can write a stored procedure with the Update_index subroutine. Can somebody give me an example what the whole script would look like? Ie components, contract blocks?

Second question: I have one main MDI frame as the main entry point to the app. The whole app uses 'system colours'. Is there a way of changing the colour of the Client Window (currently a fairly boring dark gray) without changing the rest of the (system) colour scheme or removing the '3D controls' property?

Actually he asked about something else - the background colour of a child. I just misunderstood his question. Bear that in mind if you read the rest of the thread.

Also my final suggestion will not make any sense to you. I was thinking too much of the MDI form I was working on myself at that time (and still is). In that form - if I show a child - the child fills the whole client area, and the colour doesn't matter. If there is no child my suggestion is to hide the client area by reSIZEing it to nothing and show a similarly shaped coloured control instead.
