Here's the scenario. We've recently upgraded a customer from 4.3.1 or 4.1.3 (yes, 4.1.3) to 8.0.6 in one gulp.

As soon as we put the system in, complaints from the customer till the end of time. I knew our code had not changed and tended to suggest that the client was smoking weed and didn't know the big hand from the small hand (for I could not believe that OI would slow this app to a crawl).

So over the past week with magic voodoo and what ever else I thought we could muster, we've tried to beat the customer into sumbission - however his 'solicitors' are bigger than mine, and hmmm after a few 18 hour days - they're right the new app is so much slower than the old.

Now, our app is very big and relies heavily on reference fields etc for the "guts" of its processing, and being an old app - much of our code has the trusted XLATE.

We've waded through and compared object code between old and new, took the RTP16 from OI9.1 and tried to use it, and still performance is way below par in comparison to the 4.1.3 version.

So, let's turn it the other way, let's take the 4.1.3 RTP16 and put it into the 8.0.6 system, and wow - it runs like a "cut snake"….

Mike you'll remember that near two years ago when we first migrated to 8.x, we had a similar problem and you gave me a patched RTP16 and it improved our lot. so, what's happened to retard the code so it runs like a slug (comparatively speeking)?

Question(s):

get rid of all XLATE in our code? (will take some time), but am happy to do so..

keep the 4.1.3 RTP16 ? what problems am I buying into?

what's happened between 4.1.3 to do this to the code?

Am I just thick and the problem is something totally different?

Desperate and losing customers fast looking for an answer.

Check your email. I wonder if you're somehow rolling a bad version about. I've sent the 9.1.1 version, but it really hasn't been changed since November 2008.

Whats an RTP16.

How can I see what version I am using, as if there is something I am not doing that might speed things up, then I would like to investigate.

Its running fine as it is however, I assume I am on the correct version.

I am using 8.0.8.

As I dont use this command, it wont effect me which release it is.
