Hi all,

Did a search on here but cannot find anything related. It started around 2 weeks ago when the customer mentioned that they sometimes need to click the OIv10.2 icon a few times before the application will start. The shortcut login properties logs them in and startsup the MDI by default. So when they click the icon, the startup splash screen appears as usual, but then dissapears a second later. Nothing else happens. Rebooted PC's a nyumber of times, no change. No error messages, nothing. No engines staying behind.

Then last weekend they had a server reboot, including all the workstations. As of Monday morning, the login fails with a SYS1000 error with a heading of RevEngine and an OK button. Nothing else. Rebooting nothing helps. It seems like O4W still works happely without any issues, well except one which I will get to elsewhere later.

So network error is the 1st response, but an old expired copy of OIv9.4 still loads and runs without issue.

Mapping a drive to the share and creating and deleting files works fine.

Revparam files are all fine.

Remember they were able to login to this untill Friday.

They are running Cortex XDR anti-virus. Checked the logs, nothing.

On the server, also running Cortex XDR, I can login via the shortcut as any user without issues since way before this started. Even since Monday, login in on the server works. But, earlier today, I also got the SYS1000 error in the server.

So I restarted oengineserver10 and immediatelly the sys1000 error went away. The workstations still get the same sys1000 error.

Since all other applications works fine, including OIv9.4 and O4W, I don't know what else to look for. Fresh out of ideas. Since the startup never gets to a point were we can identify a program, there is not much to go by.

Thanks

Can you start the EXAMPLES app or SYSPROG?

Does something happen on the create event of the application's entry point window?

Hi Bob,

Cannot start in dev mode. Never gets to the login screen even when double clicking on the OpenInsight.exe. So this is mainly from the workstations. I did get 1 sys1000 starting OpenInsight.exe from the server after many tries.

Got the clients IT department to pull some logs and this is what they found.

Made some progress and found a few more things that may shed some light on this ongoing issue.

1. Found a few GFE's in the SYSAUTHLOG table and fixed it. Asked the client to try to login again and the situation improved to where it was a week ago. The client keeps on trying to login multiple time via the shortcut and it will eventually log them in. Thereafter everything is fine using the application. Did that a few times and then I noticed another GFE on the SYSATHLOG table.

2. Tried to fix the GFE again, but it refused with the "Unknown Error FS255". Tried multiple times even restarting all services.

3. Then I copied the 4 LV & OV files for SYSAUTHLOG from a backup done in May 2023 and asked the client to login again. This time they logged in straight away 1st try. No waiting.

4. Client logs out and retries…. back to having multiple tries to login. At least they can login for now.

So most of the time, the OI BANNER fades in and disappears within around 2 seconds and no engine visible. One time the engine did stay up for a few more seconds and the client made a screen print before it closed itself down again.

It showed the 3 lines bottom to top:

RUN PS_INIT 132053

RUN PS_SYSMON 'LOAD'

RUN RUN_EVENT",'SYSTEM','SYSTEM','LOGIN*6*SYSPROG*LOGIN.SYSTEM*','1','ACCOUNT'','USER','PASSW'

Also the startup MDI form the application loads contains no startup events. It just loads the MDI form. Nothing happens until you click a button.

Remember everything work without issue on the server itself. It is just the desktops that experience this issue.

Thanks for looking :-)

HI Johan,

This sounds like an problem I've seen when OI is trying to access tables in both local and network mode - i.e. GFEs in a table and a GPF in RevLHClient.dll.

The way I usually check this is to use ProcMon to see what files OpenInsight.exe is trying to access. If it's trying to read LK and OV directly when it should be using the LH service (and therefore making TCPIP request) then you might have a problem.

Can you check and verify that your REVPARAM is in the correct place and contains ServerOnly=1 etc?
