Hello,
does anybody know the technical reasons why the NT-Service is only running a dedicated NT server.
Is this behavior subject of change ???
Is this true even for jLH ?

Meinolf-
Can you give me a little clarification on your comment that the NT-Service is only running a dedicated NT server.
Do you mean that the NT Service can only be run on an NT server?
Thanks,

My understanding is that the NT local machine can write with impunity to its own local disk (seen as drive C:). No locking protocals are enforced at all. In addition, the NT service probably gives the server's interrupts a pretty good beating. If the local workstation were contending for resources, it might not be a pretty sight.
Maybe somebody else has ideas…

With NT it's possible to use a system as workstation and server at the same time. But this is not supported by NT_Service.
If you install then service, it' s not possible to start the client-app on this machine

Meinolf,
The make a long story short, when the NT service was tested, it had been tested in a same-workstation client/server setup (i.e. logging into the app on the server as well as remote clients) and the testing team ran into problems with locking and data integrity.
Thus, while it's possible to start up a workstation and have it connect the NT service, we do not support running in that environment, since it was determined to be unstable.
