Volume Alias (OpenInsight 32-Bit)

In Arev, it is possible to create a VOC entry for a volume, giving it a shorthand name by which it can be referenced in all other actions. (This is not the same as naming a volume, which updates the volume label in the RevMedia file.) Am I correct in determining that this is not possible in OpenInsight? And if I'm wrong, how is it done in OI?

sure is possible .. but not well defined.
Use the SYSPTRS table to create you volume information.
Same structure as in Arev should work
any problems .. let me know

Well, I stuck it in there… It's not doing quite what I expected, but I guess it's working. The database manager still shows full paths. It did allow me to enter the aliasname instead of the path when I added a file, but when it saved the .DBT it used the actual path. Sysvolumes still uses paths, but not for REVBOOT and DATAVOL. I edited the .DBT file, swapping out the path names for the Alias and it failed to load the files from that location at startup. Apparently the only advantage it gives you is that you can enter it instead of the path in the DB manager when adding a file. Not surprising no one thought to document it.
Thanks, again!

And for the record, I just found the documentation for "Create_Volume" which creates the SYSPTRS entry.

you are right about saving dbt .. i don't ever do that. It 'ignores' the reason to have volume names ..
The OI guys did their best to forget why Arev (and rev before it) was such a great product. They did a pretty good job of it ..
Hopefully Michael and the gang will (are) slowly fixing all these bits to get back to the best product

and notably, Table Builder does not recognize SYSPTRS names. I've stuck a note in the suggestion box…
