I'm getting this message whenever 6-7 windows are open at the same time:

Not enough memory to continue

Close some application and try again.

My system has enough resources available, so what settings do I need to change to make free up the kind of memory that OI needs here?

Thanks

Dave

Stephen,

Thank you for your quick response, this is appreciated. However, it would be more helpful if your links were related to Dave's actual situation. 3 of the 4 links you gave him were for AREV. Since this is the OI Works discussion board and Dave specifically mentioned OI in his post this should have been considered more carefully.

Dave - what exactly are your resources at this point? If they are around 30% or less you can get this message. Are the windows you are launching filled with many controls? I've posted before that at best I can launch 4-5 windows that have reached closed to the maximum number of controls (i.e. 115). I've been able to calculate that on average each control reduces the amount of available resources by about .20%. This may not seem like much but 4-5 windows x 100 controls will take away 50% of the available resources. Given that even the cleanest boot of Windows will give you less than %100 and that Windows starts acting flaky around 20%, this is a problem.

The bottom line is that since OI is a 16-bit application it can't manage the resources as efficiently. Not much can be done unfortunately.

Don,

Thank you for the above. Yes, each windows consumes between 10-25% of available resources. This means that it takes about 5-6 windows before I max out.

This could prove to be a bing problem as users "drill-down" through the system for more information and open new windows as a result.

David,

This is where a 32-bit version of OpenInsight would be very helpful. There's a discussion on the regular Discussion forum about this.

Yes, to be able to use all existing 32-bit features, integrate ActiveX, not have to worry about thunking and 16 bit drivers when accessing another database, and so much more…

Alas, that will not happen, so is there a way around all this? I know that LiveWater will take care of my problems, but by the time jLH is integrated I just might have to do the next version of my application using MS-SQL or Oracle not LH.

So I ask again, does anyone know any way around these memory problems?

Thanks,

Dave

Ray,

Of course you can vote! But like other dictatorships it will just be ignored .

Actually, in all fairness to Revelation, as much as we all claim to be willing to purchase a 32-bit version of OI it really is not a viable business direction to take. I know you don't want to wait 1-1/2+ years for jRev to be primetime but you would have to wait just as long for 32-bit OI as well. By that time everybody else will have already moved away from 32-bit C++ software as we know it and we'll end up grumbling because we don't have a Java based system with all the advantages it brings. Then once again Revelation, and us indirectly, will be stuggling to work with and pitch another outdated product.

Don,

Would it really take a year and half to roll out a 32-bit OI?

I hear what you're saying and think that there may be benefit to Jrev, but will RTI give us the tools convert our OI app to Jrev?

I hope so and I believe that many are hoping and depending on this.
