When a data set is instantiated, it seems to execute the select query automatically. Is there any way to prevent this? It means that every select takes twice as long, because after I instantiate the data set, I have to load the select string with the correct runtime parameters and run it again.

For people viewing this, here's the solution: You can use the QRY_ functions instead. With them, you won't execute the query until you're ready.
