Hi all -
One of our users has asked if multi-user OI will 'run on the new macs' in a Windows server environment. Heck if I know! Any comments or thoughts greatly appreciated.

Mike,
Since Apple switched the hardware of the Mac to the Intel platform, running Windows on the Mac has become a common occurrence. There are a few ways to complete this. One is to use the Boot Camp software that comes with the Mac OS to allow the Mac to boot into a Windows environment. The other involves purchasing either Parallels or VMWare's application to run Windows in a virtual environment. Either of the choices above requires you have a valid Windows (i would recommend XP) license.
This should allow you to run Windows on the Mac either natively and in a boot mode (meaning no Mac OS will be visible) or in a virtual mode where both the Mac and Windows OSes are available. Once within Windows on the Mac, everything works just like Windows. VPN, networking, etc all operate normally from a Windows perspective so there shouldn't be anything stopping the copy of Windows on the Mac from connecting with a Windows Server.
I currently am programming in both OI and Arev in a Windows environment on a Mac, I am able to connect to a Windows 2003 server (although server configurations may vary), and am able to run Windows specific VPN applications in the virtual mode in order to connect to clients' networks.
The only problem I have encountered is the Mac laptops do not have the break, page up, page down, home, end, scroll lock, and number pad keys. There are function key combos for the above processes, but it's an added keystroke.
Other than that I've had no complaints with the overall setup or running of Windows alongside the Mac OS. If your client already has Intel based Mac's you can try this out by downloading/installing Boot Camp or one of the virtual environments and then installing Windows. If they do not have an Intel Mac I would suggest purchasing the Mac Mini as it is the cheapest to see if everything works the way they expect it.
Hope this helps,
