Intermittently, our AREV application will freeze on start up (?Processing. Please wait? ? note: no dots at this point.), as will our OI application (Displaying Revelation splash-screen). Instances running at the time seem unaffected. However, in order to get all our machines working we not only have to reboot the server, but we have also found it necessary to switch all workstations off and restart them one at a time or in small groups.

We first saw this problem during the week after we migrated to NT, then it stopped until a few of days ago.

Our system: Two applications, one OI 3.x and the other AREV 3.12, with shared data directories. The entire database and applications are on an NT 4 (Sp5) server, and we are using the Windows NT/2000 service version 1.5. The server machine is a dual Xeon 1 Ghz with 1Gb RAM. The ?system? user on NT has full access. Ordinary users have ?Change? access. We have unlimited runtimes on both applications, with well over 100 users on site. Workstations are mixture of DOS (for AREV), Win 95,98,NT or 2000 (for OI/AREV). Machines range from 486-25 to P4-1.7

Is this an NT problem or a Revelation issue? We thought that this may be due to a locking problem, however NT shows no locks.

Is there an NT equivalent of NLM_STATS? (Could help locate the problem?)

Any suggestions very welcome, either here or directly (andrew.carey@controltechniques.com).

Many thanks in advance,

Andrew.

In addition…

I've just done a "Status" on the service and it tells me that it's version 2.0.0.0 . Says version 1.5 on the documentation? Does this make a difference?

Andrew,

Does Arev start having problems and then OI does, or could either one freeze up first? When the applications are working, can you see the locks in OI and Arev from the NT server?

Have you tried putting on the LH2.log to see what calls are being made? Create a text file in the OI directory. After the application freezes, send it to Kevin@revelation.com. Be sure to remove the log after it freezes, as it can slow down the speed of the application.

Regarding the version 2.0 of the Service, I know that at one point Revelation (old guard) was testing a 2.0 version fo the NT Service, but AFAIK, it was never sold. When did you purchase your copy of the Service?

We'll get this squared away.

Kevin
