Am looking to upgrade an AREV32 system to AREV64, (alongside a move from OI9 to OI10), but am not sure how big a job this is.

I understand several such conversions have been done in the US and elsewhere, so am hoping anyone whose tried this already can give me some pointers.

Specifically:

1) What roughly is involved and roughyl how long does such a conversion take?

2) Are there any manual changes that need making to programs, screens? Or any automated conversion processes to be run?

3) Are there any specific commands that are not compatible between AREV32 & 64? (My understanding is that there are not, but just in case anyone has discovered any!)

4) Are there any specific pitfalls, gotchas etc to be aware of?

Would hugely appreciate any info from folks that have already been through this!

thanks

The conversions (and pre-conversion reports) we have undertaken thus far have been primarily OI 9 to OI 10 but the same caveats will apply.

Ironically, an AREV64 conversion is actually less work than a 9-10 conversion as AREV Window structures haven't changed.

The primary issues will be if any Windows API calls are in use and whether any printers or paths are hard coded. If you're using datawarehousing this will need to be recoded to use ADO, The screens, menus, popups etc should all come over with no changes and the recompilation of routines will provide a good feel for how much remedial work will be required there.

Of course, every system is unique and each client adds their own tweaks, so we recommend a dummy run to get a better feel for how much work is entailed. For example, a recent report we produced highlighted that xrev.dll had not yet been ported to OI10 so another mechanism would need to be found in the short term.
