We have a client that has been having issue with OpenInsight 9.4.4 running a NU type UD 4.7.2, randomly and spontaneously crashing and closing.

The usual error is "OpenInsight has stopped working. "

The setup is that the OpenInsight application lives on three load sharing RDS Servers that users connect to via a Remote App on the users Start Menu connecting to RDS session hosts. The Client data is stored on a separate database server that is on the same LAN as the RDS servers.

Upon closer investigation today we have found there are approximately 70 Blank Revparam files on the Database server in multiple folders. The client database is created/stored in multiple folders for different jobs they create. These revparam files are totally blank, 0 bytes and nothing contained within any of them. There are only two Revparam files that have data in them, on the RDS server, one in the Universal Driver Folder and one in the OpenInsight folder. Both of these Revparam files are identical.

Has anyone had any experience of multiple blank Revparam files on servers and if they are likely to be problematic. I am interested to know if this maybe our problem or we need to investigate further.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Troy

I can at least report that we've never seen anything like this before. I am pretty sure that if the REVPARAM files are empty then the UD service will still run up the directory tree to find one that has configuration data in it.

Have you looked at the Windows Event logs to determine what the cause of the OpenInsight crashes are?

Hi Don,

Thanks for your reply Don.

These blank REVPARAM files are on the Database server which does not have a Universal Driver on it. The UD is on the server that has OpenInsight on it. If the system looked at a blank REVPARAM and continued up the tree it would not find anything on that server. But given OI is on a different server, not sure that that would matter?

Also an example Event Viewer log is attached below removing necessary client data.
