Is it still true that one cannot deploy an application using promoted events with the RDK?

John,

This has never been true. We do it all the time. However, you must create your own Repository entry in order for the RDK to be able to deploy them. At the Las Vegas conference we are considering putting on a presentation where Promoted Events will be discussed and shown from beginning to end how they can be used very efficiently - even how to use them to create your own custom events that are automatically fired within the application.

Anyway, the way to allow the RDK to deploy them is to create a Miscellaneous Application Row entry. Here's a quick break-down:

1. From the Application Manager click on the Entity-]New menu.

2. Select General and click OK.

3. In the Type/Class outline select Application Rows.

4. In the Entity field type: "SYSREPOSEVENTEXES:NameOfPromotedEvent". Put the entire name of the event as it appears in the SYSREPOSEVENTEXES table, however, substitute an underscore where ever an asterick exists, e.g. "SYSREPOSEVENTEXES:MYAPP_CREATE.OIWIN_".

5. In the Title field put anything meaningful you want.

6. In the Sub-Key field type the true name of the promoted event with the astericks in place, e.g. "MYAPP*CREATE.OIWIN*".

Now go to the RDK and look under the Application Rows entity type for your entries.

Many Thanks Donald. These functions are so useful I would hate not to be able to deploy them through the RDK. I did not have enough knowledge of the basic principles of OI to add them myself without reading your guidance set out above. Once again. Many Thanks.
