DOS-based Products and LAN Manager Revelation Technologies has found that the standard Revelation G2B and DOS Advanced Revelation 1.1 Generic DOS 3.1+ network drivers will not work with networks based on Microsoft's LAN Manager release 1.0. (Examples of LAN Manager-based networks include IBM's LAN Server and 3Com's 3+Open.) This is due to an inconsistency between the LAN Manager 1.0 DOS redirector and the standard MS-NET byte-range lock implementation.
This inconsistency is resolved in LAN Manager release 1.1. Users of networks based on LAN Manager 1.1 are able to use the Revelation G2B and Advanced Revelation Generic DOS 3.1+ network drivers.
For users of networks based on LAN Manager 1.0, Revelation Technologies has created LAN Manager 1.0 network drivers for Revelation G2B and Advanced Revelation 1.1. These LAN Manager drivers will work with any release of LAN Manager.
The new driver for LAN Manager 1.0 is available on the Revelation Technologies BBS (206-641-8110, 1200/9600, 8, 1, N).
OS/2 and LAN Manager Advanced Revelation for OS/2 (the current developer version) is compatible with LAN Manager version 1.0.
Sharing Locks with DOS The OS/2 version of Advanced Revelation can coordinate locks with other LAN Manager workstations that are running DOS. In this configuration, you cannot use LAN manager 1.0.
If you wish to share locks between DOS and OS/2 workstations, you must use LAN Manager 1.1. The DOS workstations should not then use the new LAN Manager driver. Instead, the workstations should use the generic DOS 3.1 driver.
