==== RDKINSTALL (OpenInsight 32-Bit) ====

Oue of our trainers was attempting to install a module update on a Client site using RDKINSTALL. It seemed to fail because SYSLOGINS though users were in.
We have had the odd occurrence of RDK installs failing, but never fathomed why.
Is there a link between RDKINSTALL and SYSLOGINS?
If there is, is it OK to clear SYSLOGINS prior to an install, or could this do lots of damage?

Colin,
RDKInstall checks SYSLOGINS to make sure there is only one (i.e. the current) user logged into OI. This is a precaution built in to avoid issues where operations that need to update database tables and the database template file might corrupt the system if someone else is using the system.
Since these conditions are the exception rather than the rule, Revelation updated the RDK in OI v7.0 so that we could optionally deploy RDKs without requiring users to log out. We haven't used this feature yet so I can't claim that it works.

The install insists that everyone be logged out. This has bitten us before now! Shouldn't really be an issue but as ever you might want to try it first.

I have used it and the default is to not require users log out.
Seems to work for us but it would depend on what you are updating.

I cannot get this to work. If more than one user is logged in, RDK doesn't deploy (7.0.1). The checkbox on the deployment definition screen doesn't seem to make any difference. How is it done?

The Update was created in 7.01?
If so then you may have modified RDKModuleInstall?
Comments?

Upgrade created in 7.0.1.
Check box on deployment definition not checked (ie. do not require users to logout).
RDK module not amended in any way.
Will only allow deployments in runtime with all other users off.
