I have a problem with the System Editor. Sometimes the Tool bar and Exec Line go away. Anybody knows what can cause this?

Oystein,

We've seen this happen with OI32 and XP Pro too. Don't know what's causing it.

Say, has anybody noticed the real annoying 'feature' of the XP UI yet? The height of the window caption bar has increased without a corresponding increase in the height of a window… so all your controls get pushed down a few pixels… :-S

Doesn't it all remind you of the big thick Windows 3.1 dialog boxes? That's progress eh? …

Might have something to do with the Debugger. Seems to happen all the time now when I test run buggy stored procedures from the System Editor Exec Line. The errors cause a break to the Debugger, and when I'm back in System Editor the Tool bar and Exec line have gone. Closing end restarting the System Editor restores the stuff.

It also sometimes happens when I break to the Debugger deliberately, with a debug statement.

Haha. I have noticed for sure. Just went through twenty windows nudging controls withing the new limits.

It reminds me of software development in general. You always have to redo things.

Oystein,

I noticed the Toolbar disappearing trick on the early Gold releases of OI 4.01. Seems the toggle mechanism for display, not display got confused.

On later builds I havnt noticed the problem. So go and download the latest build and give it a test. (there have been several refreshes of the OI32 upgrade, one of the lastest builds was created 19 March 02)

Richard,

Haha. I'm still on 3.61. Didn't you notice the posting's category is OpenInsight 16-bit?

Oystein,

I am currently running XP and have not noticed this. I have a display setting of Windows Classic because I find the XP display annoying. I have not spent a lot time in OI 3.6.1 but do have the version loaded on my machine and have not noticed the EXEC line and Tool bar disappearing. I am curious to learn if the disappearance is regularly occurringe or sporadic without a pattern?

The day I reported the problem it occurred all the time. I was debugging a stored procedure, running the procedure from the System Editor Exec Line. I think it happened every time a bug caused a break to the Debugger, and sometimes it happened at my own debug statements.

I tried again a few times now, with a very simple procedure doing an Xlate with a non-existing field, causing a break. Again it happened, but only once.

I'll report if I discover a pattern.

Oystein,

Instead of closing down the editor, go to the options menu and

toggle the Ribbon or Status Line options. It brings back the Exec line.

Thanks. I'll try that the next time it happens.

Come to think of it - I had the same idea. I looked in the View menu for something that would toggle the tool bar etc. It didn't occur to me to look further.

Frightening, isn't it. Having used a tool for so many years without knowing all the menu options.
