We have a Client who is experiencing problems when they Alt-Tab whilst Arev is attaching volumes etc. Other Users get locked out until the User who has Alt-Tabbed then Alt-Tabs back to Arev.

Any clues how we can get around this?

Also Arev appears to lock up when a SELECT on a file with approximately 460,000 records takes place. Apparently this process writes to the LISTS file and it would appear that a limit is reached and the system hangs. The only way they can get the Users back on track is to reboot the server. I think I may have found a solution to this one by having a conditional select and then processing only those records which have been selected (still testing)

Bill,

On your PIF (shortcut) settings for AREV, ensure that Backgroud - Always Suspend is NOT checked. If it is, then this could be causing your problem.

Another option is to disable the ALT-TAB command in the shortcut settings for AREV. This would prevent them from hot swapping between apps, but obviously not prevent them from minimizing the window and switching to something else.

Your apparent "lockup" during large selects could be that the List file is resizing itself. Depending on the size of the select list and the condition of your lists file the lists file may need to be enlarged. If so a lot of records potetnially get swapped around and that could be the reason for the slow down.

I have seen this happen on a system here. The system was not hung as i could see the server and cworkstation still swapping data back a forth. I just let it run and it finally completed.

maybe this is your problem.

Thank-you for your assistance. It was the setting for the background that was causing the problem. The Client had ticked this box for each PC using the Arev product.
