Arev on Linux as Client (AREV Specific)

Hi folks,
Hopefully at least one of you has had some level of experience with running AREV on Linux since the advent of the Universal Driver 3.0…
We have Novell 5.1 running the new Universal Driver, IP only. I have been banging my head against DosEmu in Red Hat 8 until recently, when Pat McNerthney, through Kevin Ruane, informed me that, due to DosEmu's 16-bit architecture, it was not likely or possible to run the 32-bit UD dlls. We are not sure about the dll and DOS question, since I am told DOS doesn't do dlls, but I am resolving to go check out Wine next. We're trying to keep it free and easy!
Question: has anyone had any experience, good, bad, or indifferent, with trying to get such a combination to function reliably or at all?
Thanks very much for the feedback.
Best wishes,
Kara

Or are we all doomed to upgrade to M$ XP?
