Hi all

A client plans to upgrade the Hardware in your instalation.

Especifically the Server and the LAN installation from 100 mb to 1GB.

What shoud they do first ?

Is there an estimation of any percent of impact in the overall performance, including this two components: Server vs LAN ?

I need only an estimation to recommend they the planning of this changes.

Regards,

Enrique

Moving from 100Mb to 1Gb Ethernet is generally a safe and easy upgrade. Since the hardware layer is isolated from the application layer there shouldn't be any change to OpenInsight as long as all of the IP addresses are assigned correctly.

It's difficult to say how this will impact performance since it depends on the application. If your application is moving a lot of large records and files OR the existing LAN is saturated with other traffic then 1Gb Ethernet will be a speedy upgrade. For more small OpenInsight installations the difference between 100Mb and 1Gb Ethernet isn't noticeable.
