We have an application running in OI 3.7.0

One of our clients purchased a new 5 user RunTime reporter so they could build their own adhoc reports.

According to the license agreement that comes with the RunTime reporter we are allowed to make a copy of the disks for backup purposes.

So to test that the new version of the reporter works with version 3.7.0 of OI we made a backup copy of the disks using the DOS copy command with the /B option and then used the copies to install the 5 user RuntTime reporter. However, the install would not work and displayed a message saying that the disk had been copied or tampered with.

Does copying the install disks deliberatley corrupt them ???

If it does how are we supposed to make backup copies of them ???

How are we supposed to ensure that the RunTime reporter will work before we apply the RunTime reporter to our clients system.

Michael,

I don't know what's on that disk, but perhaps there are files of size 0 there. These files will not be copied with the MS-DOS COPY command. Perhaps the installation program notes their absense. Use XCOPY instead of COPY.

Michael,

I am assuming that you are on a one user licensed copy of reporter? Anyhow, the disks may be copied but the copies cannot be used to install the Reporter user bump, they must be the originals.

Hello Michael,

The first issue that should be addressed here is that the Reporter Runtime (RSDP) that you purchased is not compatible with version 3.7.0 of OpenInsight. This product is only available for use starting with version 3.7.2. So, your first step would be for you to upgrade the application to 3.7.2. The upgrade to version 3.7.2 is available in the Product Download section of the For WORKS Subscribers area. To obtain the runtime licnese for 3.7.2, you will need to print out and fax to 978-247-8900, the runtime license and runtime license order form, which can be found along with the 3.7.2 upgrade.

As for the backing up of the system, upon installing the RSDP's into the client's system, a backup should then be made of the entire system. This will ensure that if something were to happen to the system, then the backup would hold the additional user licenses that had been installed via the RSDP.

Please let me know if this answers your questions.

Mark (Revelation)

If we obtain a run time license for 3.7.2 and apply it to our client's site will that overwrite their current unlimited run time license or do we just apply the 3.7.2 upgrade to their system and that will give them unlimited access to the system, given that they already have an unlimited license?

Hi Michael,

You would simply need to upgrade your client's site to version 3.7.2. This would carry over the unlimited user count that you have already applied to their system. As always, I would suggest that you make a backup of your system before doing this, in case of any problems, you will have the backup so you don't lose your user count.

However, stepping back to the original problem, which appeared to be that of trying to install the 5-user RSDP, you will not be able to apply this RSDP to an unlimited system that has had SDP's applied to it. You can not mix a system with SDP's and RSDP's.

Please contact David Goddard if you wish to upgrade the entire system to that of a Reporter Runtime system.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Mark

Does this mean that if our client has an unlimited OI license they have to buy an unlimited reporter license ???

If this is the case then this is just plain stupid!!!!!

How can I justify paying for an unlimited reporter license when my client only really want 5 users to be able to create ad hoc reports?

Hi Michael,

I have just sent an email to you regarding this issue as I also wanted to include our local representative, David Goddard, in on our conversations. Please check your email for my response.

Thanks.

I would like to hear the end result from this thread. We may be in this same boat also.

Hello Todd,

At Revelation, we offer several deployment models for developers. These are Standard Runtime Deployment, Reporter Runtime Deployment and Development Ready Deployment. We provide these options up front so that developers can decide how they wish to deploy their applications to their end users. When deploying applications to end users, developers must decide on which option to choose based on the functionality they wish to provide.
We have developed multiple deployment options based on the demand from developers. However, we can not provide an option to mix these deployment environments. Once a developer has decided on the best deployment option for his application, this deployment model must be used for the entire system. We understand that developers may already have sites deployed with runtime SDP's. Due to this situation, we have established upgrade pricing to allow developers to upgrade their deployed sites from runtime systems to Reporter Runtime systems. Please contact your Sales or Cusotmer Care Representative for further details regarding this.
