Functions of the System Editor

The System Editor is most often used to write stored procedures. In addition, the System Editor is also used to create or modify system table records and inserts, execute routines, and create and execute OpenList (the OpenInsight query language) query statements. (OpenList is used to create queries programmatically.) The System Editor also has access to impact analysis features which allow you to preview the impact of changes made to existing code.

The following list summarizes the System Editor functionality:

  • create and edit records, stored procedures, and inserts using BASIC+;
  • execute stored procedures and system stored procedures;
  • execute routines;
  • create, edit, and execute OpenList query statements;
  • view the results of OpenList queries;
  • preview impact analysis prior to making changes;
  • provide a gateway to the debugger; and
  • run Impact Analysis. For more information on Impact Analysis refer to Chapter 4: Application Manager - Part II, in this manual.
